SUMMIT LEADERSHIP LUNCHEON RE-CAP

Thank you to all who were able to join me this past Sunday as we looked at “The Art of Welcoming.”

1. If you were unable to attend and have not yet picked up your free copy of Josh & Sean McDowell’s More Than a Carpenter, please holler at me and get your copy.  It’s a powerful recourse for both, sharing  your faith, as well as growing stronger in it.

2. With fear & trepidation, I handed out “comment cards” containing two simple questions:  (1) What are we doing well?, and (2) What can we do better?  The responses have been very helpful.  If you’d like to contribute, just email me your answers to those two questions.

NOTICE:  All boxes are due no later than this coming Sunday, 11/18.

FOR ALL RED RAIDER FANS

FYI – This is a wonderfully written article from ESPN about our former Red Raider, Patrick Mahomes.   Guns Up!   Read the article here.

MISSION “REVELATION STUDY”:  ACCOMPLISHED

So, after 22 Wed nights, 22 chapters, verse by verse, we finished our adventure through the biblical book of Revelation. It was awesome (not the teaching necessarily – but the experience )

Waylon Jennings has always been one of my favorites. And I’ll never forget the first time I listened to his song, Revelation, when I was a kid (song linked below.)

The song captures the imagination when trying to picture that moment when Christ returns to planet earth.

Having “the hell scared out of you” (the last line of the song) isn’t what the Bible says saves our souls – (faith in Christ does that). But it’s a darn good place to start. Waylon gets his point across. There’s a reason the Bible repeatedly says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”

GRACE NOTES:    Where are the other Nine?

I post this blog every Thanksgiving season.   My heart is pierced each time I read this passage of scripture.  May we remember to stop and say “thank you” not just one day of the year, but every day.  I am thankful for each of you.  Read the blog here.

THIS SUNDAY, 11/11

Preacher:  Jason

Text:  Matthew 2:9-12

SUMMIT TEAM LEADERSHIP LUNCH & TRAINING:  Sunday, Nov. 11th; noon; FLC

There is one thing that most churches do poorly.  It’s not intentional.  We just forget.  And that’s what I want to visit with you about.  I need you there.  Join me.

Spouses are invited!

At the conclusion of the meeting I will be giving you all a copy of Josh & Sean McDowell’s seminal apologetic, More Than a Carpenter.

NOVEMBER 17th; 9am-4pm; BHBC

When I began learning how logical and reasonable the Christian faith truly is, my faith deepened dramatically. As a result, I felt like I had been “set free” to engage in intelligent, non-defensive dialogue where Christianity is concerned with even the most skeptical of skeptics.

I had professed my faith in Christ at 11 years old. But, for well over a decade, had anyone asked me to “give a logical defense” of my faith (as Peter instructs in 1 Peter 3:15) I wouldn’t have really known what to say other than, “The Bible says it – I believe it.”

That cliche’ may work with a few, but not with the vast majority of mankind.

During one of the Breakout Sessions, I will present my talk titled, “How Atheism Failed Me.” For some, atheism works. For me, it failed miserably. After studying historical atheists like Nietzsche, Hume and Russell, along with contemporary atheists like Harris, Gray and Nagel, I, like former atheist, Alister McGrath (who holds a Ph.D. in molecular biophysics and teaches at Oxford), concluded the Bible presents the worldview that makes most sense of the world.

During my session, I will tell my story of how I came back to faith in Christ after finding my 19 year old son in his bedroom after he had taken his own life. I so wanted to believe there couldn’t possibly be a God. What I found in my effort to *dis*prove God was evidence so overwhelming for his existence that, I, like Peter, found myself confessing to Christ, “Where else could I go? You have the words of eternal life.”

The command from Peter in 1 Peter 3:15 is just that: a command – not a suggestion.

FROM THE BOOK OF REVELATION

It’s hard to believe that, after 21 weeks, we finally arrive next week at chapter 22.

As we walked, verse by verse, through chapter 21, we, through John’s eyes, saw the “new heaven and the new earth.”  Regarding our glorified bodies, the 17th century, Puritan pastor, Richard Baxter, wrote:

VIEWED OVER 42 MILLION TIMES…

Be encouraged as you watch this powerful performance of the timeless hymn, Amazing Grace.
