THIS SUNDAY, 2/2

Preacher:  Nick

Primary Text:  1 John 1:1-2The Greatest Story Rarely Told, Part 2 of 2

Tell your class to remember their “assignment” and memorize “The Roman Road”:  Romans 3:23; 6:23; 5:8 and 10:9. 🙂

My friends,

Our local Body of Christ known at Bacon Heights continues to “catch fire.”  This past Sunday four people joined our fellowship.  Our Wednesday evening classes continue to grow in attendance.  And there is a growing “sweet, sweet spirit in this place.”

I cannot help but believe it is a result of our return to fervent prayer.  (Jesus said, “My house shall be called a house of prayer.”)

Keep praying.

“As soon as you began to pray, an answer was given.”  (Daniel 9:23)

ALSO,…

In visiting with not only our staff, but with numerous BHBC members as well, it appears it is the right time to begin transitioning from the “SUMMIT” concept.  This ideal/strategy has not been emphasized in years and, as a result, very few have any idea what it means, making it confusing.

Feel free to call your Sunday morning class “Sunday School” or “Small Group Bible Study” again.

Further, if you were not in my class this past Wed. evening, you will notice when you arrive on Sunday the SUMMIT banners have been removed in the Worship Center.  (The room looks twice as large now – sort of like when you take down your Christmas decorations. 🙂 )  Please know the removal of the banners is not a slight on past leadership.  We simply are convicted that “fresh wind and fresh fire” are blowing through BHBC.

DISCOVERY OF NEHEMIAH’S WALL

I found this article quite fascinating. Enjoy the article here.

OUR PLAN vs. GOD’S PLAN

This is so true.  A picture really does say a thousand words.

prayer

This week, please pray specifically that BHBC members:

  1. would know Christ and make him known. (Philippians 3:10)
  2. would be empowered for service.  (1 Peter 4:10)

QUOTE of the WEEK

“By defeating the forces of evil, Jesus’ actions show the arrival of the delivering rule of God with a power that transforms the landscape of life at a profound level… [Jesus] acted with unusual force & authority…”

[Because of the Gospel], “the finger of God is at work. Demons flee. The grip is lifted. Satan’s house is plundered, his kingdom is being dismantled. At the center of it all stands Jesus Christ.”

Dr. Darrell Bock, “Who Is Jesus? Linking the Historical Jesus with the Christ of Faith”

THIS SUNDAY: 1/26/20 – “The Greatest Story Rarely Told”

Preacher:  Nick

Primary Text:  Acts 1:8

My friends, as you know, there have been adjustments these past few weeks.  But, believe me when I say:  I sincerely believe God is preparing us for something extraordinary.

In his outstanding testimony, Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire, Jim Cymbala, pastor of the Brooklyn Tabernacle, said to his church early on in his ministry:

From this day on, prayer will be the barometer of this church.  Prayer will be the measure by which God blesses us.

Our staff gathers regularly inside the main offices and calls out to the Lord on behalf of our people and one another.  There is great refreshing going on among us.

Our Personnel Team has given our church some needs for which to pray.  Each week, I’ll include new requests.  Here are the first two:

  1. that BHBC will become a house of prayer.  (Matthew 21:13)
  2. for revival and spiritual awakening.  (Psalm 85:6)

Also, continue to pray for our Personnel Team.  Those members are:

Cindy Andrews

LaDonna Barker

Richard Clark

Melba Crutcher

Debbie Heberly

Clint Hutcheson (chairman)

Fred Satterwhite

Brad Whitaker

Dedra Wood

**Remaining on the Team for a season are:  Jim Barber & Cindi Cobb

CHRIST IS TOUCHING & CHANGING LIVES – THROUGH YOU

I simply want to remind you of something volunteer leadership commonly forget:  the Lord is using  you mightily to help people learn the Truth, find peace, and rediscover hope.  Never – ever – think for a moment your tireless, weekly preparation does not go unnoticed by Christ.  He is changing lives.  And he’s using you to do it.

MID-WEEK CLASS, GOSPEL of JOHN, ROOM-CHANGE

Due to being forced to bring in extra chairs to Rm. 108 this past Wed. evening, we are moving my class to the Worship Center, effective immediately.

LEAD PASTOR RESIGNATION

In the event that you missed my email announcement to you yesterday please click here.

It is important for you to know that Jason has not only resigned, but also turned in his keys and cleaned out his office.  He is no longer employed at BHBC.

When you, and others, hear this for the first time, you will progress through the same range of emotion every single other person, including myself, have progressed through.

What is of utmost importance is for you to know that you can trust our staff and our leadership teams.   But, more important still – Christ is ever on his throne.

From my devotional time this morning:

“In a world of created, changeable things, Christ and his Word alone remain unshaken.”

WED. EVENING STUDIES RETURN TO ORIGINAL SCHEDULE

Late last Fall, a change was made to this semester’s Wed. evening studies that included “everyone together” events in the Worship Center throughout the month of February.

After discussion, we have decided to return to the original schedule which we agree helps us better attain our goal of effective learning through consistency.

In sum, you will attend your individual, regularly-scheduled Wed. evening study each Wed. evening during the semester except for when classes dismiss for Spring Break.

Once again, mid-week opportunities for biblical learning are listed below:

108 – An Eye-Witness Account of the Life of Jesus: the Gospel of John – Nick Watts

209 – GriefShare – Tom Heath

210 – Strength to Love – Cam Johnson & Dormye Halbrooks

211 – Divorce Care – Isaias & Sonya Martinez

218 – Psalm 23 – Wellspring – Laura McGrew

219 – New American Religions – Michael Dain

DON’T FORGET TO SHARE THE GOSPEL

Dear friends, this is my regular reminder that you never know if someone may be sitting in your class who has never truly professed their faith in the risen Christ.  Perhaps, even after attending church for years, they still don’t have a firm grasp on what being “saved” really means – but they’ve been attending for so long they’re now feel embarrassed to ask.

From time to time, preach the gospel and preach it boldly.  Even offering an opportunity to respond, if led to do so.

The Navigator: Special Announcement

LEAD PASTOR RESIGNATION

What follows, should you not already be aware, is what we are releasing to our respective leadership teams this week so you are not blind-sided on Sunday.  Please help us by using similar verbiage when asked about this topic.

This past week, our lead pastor, Jason Atchley, submitted his resignation.  This was his decision.  Jason visited with, both, Personnel and the deacon body this past Sunday, Jan. 5th.

The Personnel Team has already met twice and are doing an outstanding job of making certain we don’t miss a beat.

Personnel has asked myself, Mike Lewis & Dana Kluzek to “fulfill the duties of the pastor” regarding daily operations.  Please know that the office is in excellent hands and functioning perfectly.  We are galvanized in our friendships and ministry.

This Sunday, Jan. 12th, Clint Hutcheson, chairman of Personnel, will make the announcement at the conclusion of both worship services.

Should you desire to know more please attend this Sunday.

Please do not ask me questions at this point as I do not have permission to share any further information.
